A Running Blog?

10 Dec

I now realize I may have chosen a bad time to start a “running” blog. With my hip acting up, I haven’t run a lot, AKA at all since my half. With the half marathon completed, I don’t have a running plan or goal at the moment.

I’m just kind of taking it day by day, not wanting to stress my hip at the moment. Later this evening, I’ve made a deal with a coworker to go see her friend that is a doctor of osteopathic medicine and might be able to adjust my hip or provide me with some exercised that might help, so we will see what happens!

With that being said, this blog as a whole is likely to focus as heavily (or more so) on the smiles than the miles.

In the meantime, Meghan, from After the Ivy League, nominated me for the Liebster Award!

Here is what the award entails:

Write 11 random facts about yourself
Answer the 11 questions given by the person who nominated you
Create 11 new questions
Nominate 11 bloggers and mention them in your post
Thank the person that nominated you and tell the people you’ve nominated

So without further ado,

11 Random Facts:

1) I consider myself a flexitarian. As described on Wikipedia, a flexitarian is someone who almost adheres to a vegetarian diet but eats meat occasionally.

2) I never learned to ride a bike. I was scared of everything as a child, and I think balancing on bike would be included in that.

3) Similarly, I never really learned to swim. I think if push came to shove, I could probably stay afloat, but I’ve never had a desire to learn.

4) I work 7 days a week. Every week. It does get tiring but I love the busy schedule. I work a full time job Monday through Friday and a part time job Friday through Sunday. My last day off was a sick day about a month ago!

5) I am so excited for Christmas! This will be the first time in 5 years that I have actually been home in CT on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, since I’ve been working in the hospitality industry-a  24/7/365 operation.

6) I am a horrible cook. I consistenly let pots of boiling water overflow onto my stovetop. One day I’ll learn?

7) I spent one summer living in Hershey, Pennsylavnia, also known as Chocolatetown, USA for an internship. As a candy lover, it was fantastic.

8) Over three since graduation, I still miss college. Ironically, I work for a college now and am a grad student, but it’s just not the same.

9) I love theme parks. It’s something I always thought I’d “grow out of”, but no. I love the food, entertainment, attractions and the people watching!

10) I watch waaayyy to much TV.  I guess that’s what DVR’s are for? My list of favorite shows goes on and on but #1 at the moment by far is Scandal!

11) My favorite food is pizza. I could eat it every day. Another reason I am excited for a trip to Connecticut (including a visit to NYC)- the pizza in Florida does not compare!

11 Questions from Meghan:

1. What was your favorite subject in school?
I’d have to go with math, overall. I’m definitely more of an analytical, logical person. I always enjoyed the business electives my high school offered too.

2. What would your dream job be?
Truthfully, more or less what I’m doing now! I currently work in recruitment for a college. The only change I would make is that I would love to have the opportunity to participate more in recruitment travel.

3. Is there a time in your life you wish you could go back to?
As mentioned in my random facts- I’m still in withdrawal for my undergraduate college career. I would go back to any point in college!

4. Where’s your favorite place to shop?
I’d have to go with good, old Tar-jay! I can spend hours..and $100s there! It’s always good for a little retail therapy after a stressful day.

5. What’s your favorite thing to do on the weekends?
Well, I don’t really have traditional weekends, but my ideal use of free time is just spending time with my friends-whether we are just staying in or going out and doing something.

6. Name three favorite foods.
The three P’s! Pizza, pasta (and all Italian food) and potatoes (AKA french fries).

7. What was your first job?
Technically, babysitting around my neighborhood. My first “real” job was working as a party hostess at a children’s birthday party place. Basically, I was responsible for making a lot of noise, dancing under a bubble machine and keeping groups of 5 year olds semi organized.

8. How many different places have you lived?
4 states- Connecticut (where I grew up), Rhode Island (where I went to college), Pennsylvania (where I interned) and Florida (where I live and work now).
9. Who is your role model?
I can’t say that I have one true role model. I feel like am inspired and motivated my so many individuals in different ways. Coworkers who’ve dealt with more personal trauma than I can imagine and still keep smiling, family members who teach me to be a better sister, daughter and grandaughter, friends that help me maintain perspective-and fellow bloggers!

10. Why do you blog?
I started to blog to document the final stages of my training for my first half marathon. I wish I started earlier in the training process, but procrastination definitely factored in. I’ve been a long time blog reader and am always being inspired and entertained by what other bloggers are willing to share about their lives! I thought starting to blog would be a great way to continue to connect with the blogging community.

11. What are you looking forward to right now?
Right now? Lunch! As I write this, the lunch hour is approaching and I am famished! More seriously, my trip home in 2 weeks is definitely forefront in my mind!

1) If you could have a superpower, what would it be?
